During the months of May and June, property computer mapping workshops were held in Winton, Blackall, Alpha, Tara, Moonie and Goondiwindi. As well as educating producers about how this tool can be used for property management, the workshops also focused on how effective a property computer map can be during negotiations with CSG companies.
Australia Pacific LNG (Origin Energy) announced it has lined up $8.7 billion in project finance for development of its CSG project near the Gladstone port. The upstream component of the APLNG project has been under pressure due to accusations of gas seepage into the Condamine River.
The official response from the company states that they had anecdotal evidence that gas seepage into this particular area of the Condamine River (known locally as “coal hole”) was a normal occurrence and they are confident it is not due to their nearby CSG operations.
In late May, the Newman Government gave the green light to Hancock Coal's A$6.4 billion Alpha Coal Project in the Galilee basin. However, the project has now been put on hold by the Federal Government due to issues with the bilateral agreement process (see Courier Mail story). This has led to a new bilateral agreement between the State and Federal Governments.
Westside Corporation currently has exploration tenures with a combined area of 13,280km2 across the north-west of the Galilee Basin. The tenures of ATP 974P and ATP 978P are estimated to hold 21 trillion cubic feet (TcF) of gas and are targeting the Bandana Formation with coal seams between 13m to 17m wide.Blue Energy’s wholly owned subsidiary, Eureka Petroleum Pty Ltd., has successfully secured 3 large mining tenures throughout the Southern Gulf Catchments area. Landholders are urged to view these tenures via the IRTM website. Similarly view the Environmental Authorities to gain further knowledge if one of these tenures is over your property. Armour Energy also shows to have tenures adjacent to these Eureka Petroleum tenures.
